Dump TV, Get Rich
Those of you who know me well, know that I am not much of a TV watcher. What little I do watch is boring to most normal people; by way of example, note that my 10-year-old 25″ RCA tube has the C-SPAN logo burned into the bottom right corner.
So for me, this article feels like vindication:
How Dumping TV Allowed Me To Quit My Job…
Not that I’m rich by any means, but you get the point — TV is usually a soporific time-waster. Watch less TV, get more “real” stuff done.

Amen, brother! :-)
My TV habit right now includes BBC America’s news hour while I’m fixing/eating dinner, then back to being productive in some fashion or another…

I also don’t watch TV, but I think those who use DVRs are doing the next best thing, because they’re only watching what they want to watch when they want to watch it.
I think the traditional approach of watching whatever is on is what can really waste time in much the same way that shopping instead of buying only what you need can really waste time.

We’re totally up in DVRs, but the better half and I are both media junkies, so I don’t think getting rid of the TV is an option 8)

Tivo > Live TV. We record everything and only watch live TV if we happen to be there while it’s on. Plus, it’s amazing when you have a baby - little one fussy? just pause!
I know I watch way too much TV - hooked on shows like Heroes and Stargate: Atlantis and Chuck and Ghost Hunters and The Office and…well, you get the idea.

@Chris (Shiflett), Ed:
I can totally go with the DVR thing. Lately I’ve been wanting to get one of those myself.
Using a DVR makes it more like watching DVDs, I think. It’s planned consumption instead of time-killing soporific.
I guess my distaste for always-on TV-watching comes from the switch where, instead of watching TV “when there’s nothing to do”, watching TV becomes “something to do”, and so turns into a life-waster.
@Chris (Cornutt):
That only sounds like a total of 5 or so hours a *week* (vs 4-5 hours a day). Not what I’d call “too much” at all. :-)

Just think how much richer we could be if you stopped making me watch Book TV on CSPAN!
